Introducing the Rainbow Reef Fiji Foundation

A 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Committed to Protecting the Soft Coral Capital of the World
The Rainbow Reef is more than just a dive destination—it is one of the planet’s most biodiverse marine ecosystems, a living testament to nature’s beauty and resilience. Located in the Somosomo Strait between Taveuni and Vanua Levu, Fiji’s famous Rainbow Reef is home to vibrant soft corals, over a thousand marine species, and world-renowned dive sites such as The Great White Wall, Cabbage Patch, Jerry’s Jelly, and Nuku Reef. But like many tropical reef systems, it is now under growing pressure from climate change, rising sea temperatures, pollution, and human impact.
To help protect this fragile ecosystem for generations to come, we are proud to officially announce the formation of the Rainbow Reef Fiji Foundation—a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established to support marine protection efforts in the region through Conservation, Outreach, and Stewardship.
Our Mission
To preserve and protect the Rainbow Reef ecosystem by fostering sustainable marine practices, supporting scientific research, empowering local communities, and educating future generations.
Our Core Pillars
Conservation
We support initiatives such as coral restoration, reef monitoring, crown-of-thorns mitigation, marine debris removal, water quality improvement, and sustainable diving practices. By working closely with dive operators, local stakeholders, and global marine scientists, we promote real, measurable change beneath the surface.
Outreach
Protecting the reef starts with awareness. Through educational programs, partnerships with schools and dive academies, volunteer programs, and industry advocacy, we connect people to the reef’s story. We work with travelers, divers, communities, and policymakers to create a culture of responsible ocean interaction.
Stewardship
True sustainability comes from care and accountability. Our foundation fosters stewardship by supporting local families, training marine guides, funding environmental watchdog initiatives, and collaborating with local customary landowners and coastal communities. Protecting the reef means empowering those who depend on it most.
Why Now?
The Rainbow Reef’s health is at a critical tipping point. Without coordinated action, rising sea temperatures and ecosystem stress may severely impact coral coverage and biodiversity. Fiji’s local communities rely on healthy reefs for food security, tourism, and cultural identity. The future of the reef is directly tied to the future of the region.
Creating a dedicated foundation allows us to:
Engage and support global partners
Apply for marine conservation grants
Provide tax-deductible opportunities for donors
Formalize research, monitoring, and data collection
Expand local reef protection projects
